Official Visit Golden Rule Lodge #409 – Sept. 08, 2008
By R.W. Bro. Gerald Stillar, DDGM

THE FUTURE HAS ARRIVED

Brethren we live in a world of receiving messages instantly whether by cell phone, email or other electronic devices. And instantly we could miss that message, an important message, such as a birth, job interview, passing of a departed brother, or even a lodge practice. Brethren please do not miss the point of this message I'm about to pass on to you.

The future has arrived.

The future of Masonry rests entirely with you, its members. Its continuance or demise depends upon your active participation in your lodge and in the world at large. The sacred duties of truth, honour and  virtue will be your guide.

We, as Masons, are taught that Masonry regards the internal qualifications of a man. That spiritual temple that each of us must build is a life long duty that is never completed this side of the grave. In the pursuit of erecting that spiritual edifice, we must be exemplary in our conduct - live just and upright lives. It is imperative that we act with others on the square and be prudent in regulating our actions. It is only by striving to be that Ideal Mason that others may think us worthy to join our ranks.

Your active participation in the lodge and your community are crucial to our continuance and permanence. Preparation is the key to meaningful involvement.

There is no substitute for preparation. Whether in the lodge or in your community, no event can run efficiently and smoothly without it. Talent may provide a framework for success but preparation allows for interaction and cooperation of all the participants.

No matter how talented a Master may be, he can not conduct the affairs of the lodge effectively without the active participation and cooperation of its members. Likewise, any community event needs to have the active participation of many well prepared participants to ensure a successful event.

You may ask, how can I help. In the lodge, there are many tasks that do not involve ritual work. Many committees, such as Sick and Visiting and Blood Donor Committees are always in need of volunteers.

Volunteer your services. Prepare yourself for every meeting so that when you are called upon you may cheerfully embrace the opportunity of enriching the experience you are about to partake in.

It is also very important for all of us to become involved in our community. Events such as events for charities, Blood Donor Clinics, social welfare and health funding projects are just a few of the many ways to be involved in your community. Then you will have put into practice that virtue you profess to admire, I mean Charity.

In conclusion, I implore you to do whatever part you do to the best of your ability every time. Your excellence will be recognized and reward you with a great feeling of satisfaction for a job well done!

It is a well known fact that people throng to success and excellence. Preparation is the pathway that will lead you there. Good men will race to your door to be near the excellent temple you are erecting.

This is the message I'm passing on to you for the good of Muskoka-Parry Sound District.  Don't miss it.
